Attorney General says there is "no time frame" for finishing the Oswego investigation

New York Attorney General Letitia James said she "can't give you a time frame" for finishing her office's investigation of the city of Oswego's handling of a federal immigration enforcement case, WRVO reported. "We've got a number of active investigations," she said. "They take time." Her office has requested documents and body-worn camera video from the city. WRVO describes the matter as a Sept. 30 incident in which two roofing company employees stayed out of the reach of Border Patrol officers by perching on a house roof until the agents left, and says a new unit of the Attorney General's office, created after the state's Local Cops, Local Crimes Act, is investigating; the act, WRVO says, bars many forms of cooperation between local police and federal immigration agents. Mayor Rob Corradino, who said at the time that city police and fire staff brought a ladder at Border Patrol's request, said at a Tuesday meeting that the city was not cooperating with the federal effort and "plans to cooperate" with the inquiry; the Common Council voted at that meeting to hire the Syracuse firm Barclay Damon to help, and WRVO reports that several members of the public who spoke disagreed with the mayor's account.
