Producer prices rose 1.3% in September, more than forecast; retail sales up 0.8%

The producer price index rose 1.3% in September and 6.3% from a year earlier, the Bureau of Labor Statistics said Thursday, CNBC reported; economists polled by Dow Jones had forecast 0.6% on the month and 5.5% on the year. Core PPI, which excludes food and energy, rose 0.7% on the month and 5% over 12 months, and the BLS said almost half of the increase in processed goods for immediate demand was connected to higher diesel fuel prices. Retail sales grew 0.8% in September against 0.4% forecast, according to government data released the same day. CNBC reported that, by CME's FedWatch tool, traders put the chance of a Federal Reserve rate increase on Oct. 28 at nearly 34%, up from under 18% a week earlier.
