Three children and a teacher killed at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, police say
Three children and a teacher were killed Thursday, Oct. 15, at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon, when a 16-year-old shot them, and the suspect is also dead, police said, according to OPB. Police said the children were 5, 8 and 11 years old, that a community member shot the suspect after seeing him enter the school, and that another child, age 7, and a teacher were being treated at St. Charles Medical Center Bend. The victims and the suspect had not been named when OPB reported. Gov. Tina Kotek said in a statement that she was monitoring the situation and would share more as she learned more, and Bend-La Pine Schools Superintendent Steven Cook said the community was "stunned and heartbroken." Classes in the district were canceled the next day.
