Disney to make job offers to at least 60 Character.AI employees, TechCrunch reports
Disney has agreed to make employment offers to at least 60 Character.AI employees, the majority of the chatbot startup's workforce, according to a legal filing spotted by Bloomberg, TechCrunch reported. The filing puts the compensation at an estimated $60 million a year and says the "vast majority" of the employees who were offered jobs accepted. Character.AI filed for bankruptcy earlier this week, and the startup had previously said Disney agreed to acquire some of its assets for $20 million; the filing describes the deal as a stalking-horse bid, so another company could come forward with a higher offer. The filing says the startup has been hobbled by high costs and "potential litigation-related liabilities and regulatory engagement" despite a "large and engaged user base."
