U.S. stocks fall as oil jumps on reports of planned strikes on Iran; Meta and Tesla slide on earnings

U.S. stocks fell Thursday as oil prices jumped on reports of new planned U.S.-Israel strikes on Iran, while Meta Platforms and Tesla fell after earnings reports, Investor's Business Daily reported. Just after the open, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 0.4% and the S&P 500 down 0.8%, IBD said, and it reported Tesla fell about 3.5% after its third-quarter report. The New York Times reported that earnings reports from big technology companies spooked investors and that oil rose to its highest level in months, and The Wall Street Journal's summary said the Nasdaq led the losses as jitters around artificial intelligence resurfaced.
