Longtime Nassau County Toys for Tots leader keeps going after a stroke
Chuck Kilbride, 73, a retired Marine major who has led Nassau County's Toys for Tots since the 1990s, helped hand out toys to children from Hempstead on Wednesday at Miller's Ale House in Levittown, where county government officials honored him, the New York Post reported. Kilbride said the number of toys he has given out in his more than 30-year career is "probably" more than 2 million. He suffered a stroke last October that left him with aphasia, the Post reported, and kept running the drive. Toys for Tots co-chairman Sean Acosta told the Post that Kilbride "never takes recognition, and that's why this year we're recognizing him."
