Buffalo school board delays a vote on its school closure plan
The Buffalo Board of Education postponed a vote Wednesday night on a proposal to close several Buffalo Public Schools, with the vote pushed to a later date, WIVB reported. The latest version of the plan, which would take effect in the 2027-2028 school year if approved, adds the P.S. 17 Early Childhood Center to the closure list and removes P.S. 82 Ronald Peoples School of Scholars, WKBW reported. At a Tuesday meeting, P.S. 17 principal Cameron Hall said more than 80 percent of its students attend regularly, including many students with autism, and called the possibility of moving them to different buildings "heartbreaking," and Common Council Member David Rivera raised concerns about the time allowed to review the revisions. Interim Superintendent Ebony Prophet Bullock said she would "stand by whatever decision my board makes."
