EA is closing BioWare, the studio behind Mass Effect and Dragon Age
Electronic Arts is closing BioWare, the 31-year-old studio behind the Mass Effect and Dragon Age series, EA announced Wednesday, CNET reported. EA confirmed in a blog post that the closure comes with a decision to stop development on the next Mass Effect game, CNET said. Bloomberg reported that the closure involves around 400 layoffs, about 50 of them at BioWare, according to CNET. EA's post also said the company is refocusing on core areas, which CNET described as shooters, action-adventure games, its sports franchises, The Sims and its skateboarding series.
