Boeing reports a third-quarter net loss of $116 million, down from a $5.34 billion loss a year earlier
Boeing reported a net loss of $116 million, or 26 cents a share, for the three months ended Sept. 30, compared with a loss of $5.34 billion, or $7.14 a share, a year earlier, CNBC reported Tuesday morning. Revenue rose 4% to $24.19 billion and defense unit revenue rose 15% to $7.94 billion; the adjusted loss was 34 cents a share against a loss of 21 cents that analysts expected, according to LSEG consensus cited by CNBC. The year-earlier quarter included a charge of nearly $5 billion on the 777X program, CNBC said. Boeing delivered 161 commercial airplanes in the quarter, one more than a year earlier, and commercial aircraft revenue fell 3% to $10.72 billion with a negative operating margin of 6.5%, which Boeing attributed to delivery mix, projected costs of future production rate adjustments and supply chain costs. CNBC's headline said the "focus remains on 737 Max production"; in the story, CEO Kelly Ortberg told CNBC on Tuesday the company was working to stabilize 737 Max production, that the work would likely run through this year, and that Boeing was producing about 47 of the planes a month.
