Mary Peltola, the Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate in Alaska, and her family sustained minor injuries in a car crash Saturday evening in Anchorage while traveling to the Alaska Federation of Natives banquet, her campaign said, according to CBS News, the Associated Press (carried by PBS) and the Guardian. Campaign manager Cheryl Bruce said in a statement that Peltola and her family were "in good spirits" and that events planned for Sunday and Monday, including stops in Fairbanks and Bethel, would be rescheduled on medical advice. The Guardian reported that the campaign said she would resume events Tuesday in Homer. Anchorage police told the Guardian they responded to a multi-vehicle collision at about 6:55 p.m., that Peltola's family and the occupant of a second vehicle were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, that the occupant of a third vehicle refused transport, and that the circumstances were under investigation. Peltola is challenging Sen. Dan Sullivan, a Republican, in the Nov. 3 election.
