Antonelli wins the United States Grand Prix and can clinch the Formula 1 title in Mexico City next weekend

By D. Marlowe · October 27, 2026 · First reported October 25, 2026 · Edited by C. Fletcher

Kimi Antonelli, 20, of Mercedes won the United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas on Sunday, ahead of Charles Leclerc of Ferrari and Max Verstappen of Red Bull, the Guardian, BBC Sport and Sky Sports reported. After the race Antonelli led Mercedes team-mate George Russell by 123 points, according to all three outlets, and led Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton by 124 points, according to the Guardian and Sky. Mercedes ran a one-stop strategy while the Ferrari and Red Bull cars made two stops, the three outlets said. The winning margin differs by outlet: the Guardian's results table showed Leclerc 13.078 seconds behind, Sky said Antonelli won by 13 seconds, and BBC Sport said he finished 16 seconds clear of Leclerc. The next round is the Mexico City Grand Prix, October 30 to November 1, according to BBC Sport and Sky. The outlets differ on what Antonelli needs there. Sky said he will definitely clinch with a finish in the top nine, and the Guardian said ninth or better is enough whatever his rivals do. BBC Sport said ninth is enough even if Russell wins and 10th is enough if Hamilton wins, and that he is champion wherever he finishes if neither Russell nor Hamilton wins. The Guardian and Sky called it his ninth win of the season; BBC Sport's photo caption said he has won nine of 18 races. For his previous win, BBC Sport said the Spanish Grand Prix "last month" and Sky said mid-September.
