UR Medicine Home Care held its first Run to Remember Hospice on Sunday morning at Genesee Valley Park in Rochester, WHEC and WROC reported. According to WHEC, more than 300 people registered for the 5K and a 1.25-mile walk, and as of 7 p.m. more than $11,000 had been raised against the goal of $7,500, with the proceeds going to the university's home care hospice program's unfunded services. Greg Hutton, president and CEO of University of Rochester Medicine Home Care, told WHEC the event was meant to let families honor a loved one who has died and to spotlight hospice, which he said is "for living your best as long as you can." WROC reported that the event was put together with Fleet Feet and that this year's shirt design used the fingerprints of children who attended Camp Heartstrings, the agency's bereavement camp for children who have experienced the death of someone close to them.
