Apple says it is exploring a fix for Safari's narrow view on the iPhone Duo's outer display, and CNET expects third-party apps to adapt over time
Apple's Jen Simmons said in a post on the WebKit blog about Safari 27.1 that websites currently cannot extend behind the controls on the iPhone Duo's outer display and that Apple is investigating ways to let them, 9to5Mac reported. 9to5Mac said several reviews, including its own, had singled out Safari's right-aligned controls for leaving a narrow strip for content. Separately, MacRumors described an iPhone Duo setting called Shift Left Edge, which insets the display edge for cases that cover part of the outer display's left side; MacRumors said a prompt appears when Apple's official case is fitted and that the setting can also be switched on by hand under Display & Brightness for third-party cases. CNET reported that some third-party apps, with Instagram shown as its example, leave unused space or crop awkwardly on the Duo's screens, while Apple's own apps suit the device. CNET's reviewers said they expected app updates to follow, pointing to how apps adapted after the original Samsung Galaxy Fold and the iPhone X; that is CNET's expectation and not a confirmed timetable, and CNET said it could not gauge when specific apps will be updated.
