Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation has filed a notice of intent to apply for a new license for the Varick-High Dam #21 Transmission Line Project, FERC Project No. 11617-003, in the City of Oswego, along with a pre-application document, according to a Federal Energy Regulatory Commission notice published in the Federal Register on Oct. 30. The director of FERC's Division of Hydropower Licensing approved the company's request to use the Traditional Licensing Process in a letter dated Oct. 26, the notice says. All license applications for the project must be filed by Oct. 31, 2029. With the notice, FERC said it is opening informal consultation with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service under the Endangered Species Act and consultation with the New York State Historic Preservation Officer under the National Historic Preservation Act, and it designated Niagara Mohawk as its non-federal representative for both. Niagara Mohawk filed its request on Sept. 2 after giving public notice on Aug. 27, according to the notice. The notice does not grant a license.
