Oswego rededicates the Edward A. Maxon East Side Fire Station with new signage honoring a firefighter who died in 1956
The City of Oswego rededicated the Edward A. Maxon East Side Fire Station on Oct. 30 at a morning ceremony that unveiled new signage with the name of Firefighter Edward A. Maxon, Oswego County Today reported. Maxon died in the line of duty on May 2, 1956, after 20 years with the Oswego Fire Department, according to the city's release. City leaders and the fire department dedicated a memorial to Maxon in 1984 and named the station for him, and the city said the new signage makes his name a permanent and visible part of the building. "Today's ceremony is about more than a sign," Mayor Robert A. Corradino said in the release. Fire Chief Paul Conzone spoke about how the station came to carry Maxon's name, and retired Deputy Fire Chief Edward C. Maxon, his grandson, spoke about his grandfather's life, according to the city.
