Oswego County opens a micro-enterprise grant program, with pre-applications due Nov. 6
Small businesses in Oswego County can seek grants of $5,000 to $35,000 through a micro-enterprise program from Oswego County government, Operation Oswego County, Inc. and New York State Homes and Community Renewal, which funds it, according to an Oct. 26 county news release. Pre-applications are due by 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, by emailing the "Survey of Project Interest" pages to Operation Oswego County Economic Development Manager Nathan Emmons at nemmons@oswegocounty.org, the release said. Grants can cover equipment, machinery, inventory and working capital such as rent or mortgage, insurance, utilities, staff salaries and marketing. Owners must show a 10% cash match and pay project costs up front, then may request reimbursement of 90%, and businesses must have five or fewer full-time employees, including the owner, and be located in the county. The program must either support an owner whose income is below 80% of the area median income as defined by HUD or create a job for someone below that threshold, and selected participants must complete Operation Oswego County's six-week Microenterprise Training Program, according to the release.
