Baker, Bochy, Maddon and Piniella on the Hall of Fame's eight-name managers and executives ballot
The National Baseball Hall of Fame on Monday announced eight candidates for its Contemporary Baseball Era ballot of managers, umpires and executives: Sandy Alderson, Dusty Baker, Bruce Bochy, Joe Maddon, Lou Piniella, Brian Sabean, Ted Turner and Bill White. The committee meets on 6 December in San Diego, and a candidate needs 75 percent of the ballots cast to be elected, the Hall said. Results will be announced that night on MLB Network at 8 p.m. ET. Anyone elected will be inducted in Cooperstown on 25 July 2027 with any players chosen in the Baseball Writers' Association of America election, which is announced on 19 January 2027, according to the Hall. The committee has 16 voters, whose names will be announced closer to the meeting, the Associated Press reported in a story carried by ESPN. All candidates except Turner, the former Atlanta Braves owner who died on 6 May at 87, are living; the AP gave Piniella's age as 83, Baker's as 77 and White's as 92.
