Apple will give apps with dating features, including virtual companions in sexual or romantic content, a minimum 18+ age rating
Starting Nov. 16, developers must declare in the App Store Connect age rating questionnaire whether their apps include real-world location sharing or features for dating or relationship connections, including with a virtual companion that engages a user in sexual or romantic content, Apple said in a developer news post on Monday. Apps with the Dating and Relationships feature receive a minimum age rating of 18+, while location sharing may not change an app's minimum rating in some regions, Apple said. All apps must complete the declarations by Jan. 12, 2027. In Brazil, local rules require an A16 rating for location sharing and an A18 rating for dating and relationships, and developers who believe an app qualifies for a lower rating, such as one built for parents and children to share locations, can ask Brazil's Ministry of Justice and Public Security for an official rating, Apple said. 9to5Mac and MacRumors reported the change on Monday.
