Frost at dawn, then sunny and still with highs in the mid-50s
Fulton dropped to 28 degrees this morning under clear skies. A sunny, light-wind Wednesday will bring the high to around 56. Dry weather holds through the weekend, with temperatures climbing into the low 60s by Sunday.
Good morning, Oswego. The airport at Fulton recorded 28 degrees at daybreak and sat at 30 as of 7:20 a.m. — a solid frost to start the day. Syracuse was a few degrees milder at 34. Both stations are clear and calm, and that's the theme for the rest of the day.
Alerts: As of 7:51 a.m. Wednesday, the Weather Service listed no watches, warnings or advisories for Oswego County. Downstate, NWS Upton issued coastal flood advisories for Southern Nassau County (3 to 7 p.m.) and Southwest Suffolk County (5 to 9 p.m.), and a coastal flood statement for Staten Island (4 to 6 p.m.), all for minor tidal flooding this afternoon. On the water, no marine alerts were active for New York.
Today: Sunny, with a high near 56, according to the Weather Service. My own blend of the forecast models runs a touch cooler at 53. East wind 2 to 6 mph.
Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 42 and a light north wind around 5 mph.
Thursday: Mostly sunny, high near 56 again. A dry cold front crosses the region during the day, bringing a north wind of 3 to 12 mph but no rain. Thursday night turns colder, with a low around 34. Buffalo's forecast discussion notes a possible Small Craft Advisory for Lake Ontario on Thursday as north winds push waves to around 4 feet.
The week ahead: Friday is the coolest day on the horizon, with a high near 52 and clear skies. A ridge of high pressure then builds in over the weekend. Saturday climbs to about 57, and Sunday looks like the warmest day of the week at 61. My blend agrees on the trend, running slightly cooler through Thursday (55) and then matching up by Sunday (60). None of the models shows rain until a slight chance next Tuesday.
