A cold front slips through, and Tuesday turns chilly
Monday stays partly sunny with a high around 57–60 as a weak cold front passes. Behind it, a cold night near 32 and a sunny but brisk Tuesday near 48, before a mild run returns from midweek.
Good morning, Oswego. It was a cool, clear start. The airport in Fulton bottomed out near 39 degrees just before 7 a.m., and at 7:35 a.m. both Fulton and Syracuse read about 39 under clear skies, with barely a breeze.
Alerts: As of 7:51 a.m. Monday, the Weather Service listed no watches, warnings or advisories for Oswego County or for any land area in New York. On the water, the Lake Ontario marine feed listed a Small Craft Advisory from NWS Buffalo for the nearshore waters from Hamlin Beach to Mexico Bay, from 11 p.m. tonight to 8 a.m. Tuesday, for northeast winds of 10–20 knots and waves of 2–5 feet. NWS Buffalo advises that "inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels, should avoid navigating in hazardous conditions." The New York feed listed nothing else.
Today: Partly sunny, with a high near 60 and a west wind of 6–12 mph, according to the Weather Service. My own blend of the forecast models runs cooler, near 57. Buffalo's forecasters expect a weak cold front to cross late morning into early afternoon; it should pass mostly dry, though a few light showers are possible in North-Central New York.
Tonight: Partly cloudy and cold, with a low around 32 and a north wind around 10 mph, gusting as high as 21 mph. My blend lands a little milder, at 34.
Tuesday: Sunny but chilly, with a high near 48 and a northeast wind around 8 mph — my blend agrees at 48. Tuesday night turns partly cloudy and colder still, down to about 28.
The week ahead: It warms quickly from there: near 60 Wednesday and 67 Thursday, then a 40% chance of showers Thursday night into early Friday ahead of another weak front, with Friday near 61. Halloween Saturday looks mostly sunny and near 60. Buffalo's forecasters note no measurable rain across the region in nine days, with fine fuels and leaf litter very dry and some increase in wildfire risk, and don't expect a wetting rain this week. My blend runs within three degrees of the Weather Service all week.
Tropics: Two storms are active in the Pacific, both far from us: Tropical Storm Vance in the eastern Pacific (55 knots) and Tropical Storm Olana in the central Pacific (35 knots).
