A frosty start, then a run toward 70 by Thursday
Tuesday stays mostly sunny and chilly near 48, with a cold night near 30 to follow. Then it warms fast: near 60 Wednesday and 69 Thursday, before a 50% chance of showers Thursday night.
Good morning, Oswego. The airport in Fulton read 32 degrees at 6:20 a.m. and again at 7:25 a.m., under clear skies with calm wind. Syracuse was 37 at 7:20 a.m.
Alerts: As of 7:43 a.m. Tuesday, the Weather Service listed no watches, warnings or advisories for Oswego County or for any land area in New York. On the water, the Lake Ontario marine feed listed a Small Craft Advisory from NWS Buffalo for the nearshore waters from Hamlin Beach to Mexico Bay until 8 a.m. this morning, for northeast winds of 10–20 knots and waves of 3–5 feet. The New York feed listed nothing else.
Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 48 and a northeast wind around 8 mph, according to the Weather Service. My own blend of the forecast models agrees at 48.
Tonight: Partly cloudy and cold, with a low around 30 and an east wind around 5 mph. My blend has 31. Buffalo's forecasters expect lows in the lower 20s to lower 30s across North-Central New York by daybreak Wednesday.
Wednesday: Partly sunny and milder, with a high near 60 and a southeast wind of 5–8 mph; my blend has 59. Wednesday night stays partly cloudy, with a low around 45.
The week ahead: Thursday is sunny and near 69 (my blend: 67). Buffalo's forecasters expect near-record highs in the upper 60s to mid-70s that afternoon in many lower-elevation parts of Western New York and the Finger Lakes, including Buffalo and Rochester; Oswego County is not among the areas they name. A weak cold front brings a 50% chance of showers after 8 p.m. Thursday, with less than a tenth of an inch of rain, then a 30% chance before 8 a.m. Friday; Friday is mostly sunny and near 58. Halloween Saturday looks mostly sunny and near 58. Showers return to the forecast Sunday night and Monday, at 51% each. Buffalo's forecasters say no measurable rain has fallen in nearly two weeks across most of the region and that fine fuels and leaf litter should stay very dry; they do not expect strong, gusty winds to coincide with low humidity through the weekend. My blend's highs run within two degrees of the Weather Service all week.
Tropics: One storm is active, far from us: Tropical Storm Vance in the eastern Pacific, at 40 knots.
