Mild today, near 71 Thursday, then a cooler Halloween
Wednesday is partly sunny and near 62. Thursday runs warmer still, near 71 on a south wind, before a 50% chance of showers Thursday night. Then it cools: near 56 Friday and 54 for Halloween Saturday.
Good morning, Oswego. The airport in Fulton dipped to 30 degrees at 12:40 a.m. and read 37 at 7:10 a.m., under clear skies with calm wind. Syracuse was 36 at 7:10 a.m., clear, with a light east wind.
Alerts: As of 7:52 a.m. Wednesday, the Weather Service listed no watches, warnings or advisories for Oswego County or for any land area in New York. On the water, neither the New York feed nor the Lake Ontario marine feed listed any alerts.
Today: Partly sunny, with a high near 62 and a southeast wind of 5–8 mph, according to the Weather Service. My own blend of the forecast models has 61.
Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 47 and a southeast wind around 7 mph. My blend has 48.
Thursday: Sunny and warm, with a high near 71 and a south wind of 7–12 mph; my blend has 68. Buffalo's forecasters say records may fall or be tied Thursday, especially at Rochester and in the Genesee Valley, with gusts to 35 mph, strongest northeast of Lake Erie. A weak cold front brings a 50% chance of showers between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m. Thursday night, with less than a tenth of an inch of rain and a low around 46.
The week ahead: Friday is mostly sunny and cooler, near 56, with a west wind of 13–16 mph (my blend: 58). Halloween Saturday is sunny and near 54, then down to about 34 Saturday night; Sunday is partly sunny and near 59. Buffalo's forecasters expect dry weather from Friday through the weekend, extending a stretch in which no measurable rain has fallen for 10 days; they say fine fuels and leaf litter should stay very dry. On Lake Ontario, they expect small-craft conditions to spread east across the lake Friday as winds turn west, with waves of 3–5 feet. No advisory has been issued.
Tropics: One storm is active, far from us: Tropical Storm Vance in the eastern Pacific, with 40 mph winds about 280 miles west of Manzanillo, Mexico. The Hurricane Center expects it to become a post-tropical remnant low Thursday as it nears northwestern Mexico.
